Quarter One: The Starting Quarterbacks were Tony Eason
for
Quarter Two: Dennis Gentry would rush 6 yards off of a reverse to pick up the first down at the New England 46 yard line. Jim McMahon would then find Willie Gault with a 7 yard pass to get to the New England 39 yard line. Later, Jim McMahon would throw a 24 yard pass to Matt Suhey and get the Chicago offense down to the Patriots 15 yard line. Matt Suhey would then rush for a gain of 6 yards to get to the Patriots 9 yard line. Jim McMahon would cap off the drive by following William Perry into the end zone from 3 yards out for the touch down and with Kevin Butler's extra point the score would be (20-3) Chicago. Later, Tony Eason would be sacked by Otis Wilson causing a loss of -9 yards on the play forcing the Patriots to punt. Later, Walter Payton would rush for a gain of 5 yards. Matt Suhey would then loose the ball on the next play and it would be recovered by Raymond Clayborn and the Patriots who would get the ball on their own 46 yard line. Steve Grogan would come in at quarterback to replace Tony Eason. Steve Grogan would find Tony Collins for an 8 yard gain to get the Patriots to the Chicago 46 yard line. Steve Grogan would then find Craig James with a 6 yard gain and a first down at the Chicago 40 yard line. That first down would be the first one for the Patriots in the game. Later, Walter Payton would rush for a 5 yard gain, he would then rush for 7 yards more. Jim McMahon would then find Dennis Gentry with a 14 yard gain and get the ball to the Patriots 46 yard line. Dennis Gentry would then run the ball 5 yards to get to the New England 41 yard line. Jim McMahon would then find Ken Margerum with a pass play completion to get to the New England 12 yard line. Jim McMahon would then rush for a gain of 8 yards to get to the Patriots 2 yard line. Kevin Butler would cap off the drive and the half by kicking a 24 yard field goal making the score at the half (23-3) Chicago.
Quarter Three: Steve Grogan would find Stanley Morgan for a gain of 8 yards. Steve Grogan would then be sacked by Steve McMichael causing a loss of -3 yards on the play. On the very next play Steve Grogan would again be sacked, this time causing a loss of -13 yards on the play. Facing a 3rd & 33 Steve Grogan would find Stephan Starring with a 24 yard pass play completion but the Patriots would still be forced to punt. Patriots punter Rich Camarillo would then set an NFL Super Bowl Record by punting the ball 62 yards to force the Bears to start on their own 4 yard line. Jim McMahon, from his own end zone would find Willie Gault with a pass play completion of 60 yards and just like that the Bears would be on the New England 37 yard line. McMahon would then find Moorehead for 15 more yards and get the ball to the Patriots 22 yard line. Later, Walter Payton would rush 4 more yards to get to the New England 16 yard line. Matt Suhey would later rush for a gain of 9 yards to get to the Patriots 7 yard line. McMahon would then find Ken Margerum with a 6 yard pass to get to the 1 yard line of the Patriots. Jim McMahon would cap off the 9 play 96 yard drive by rushing into the end zone from 1 yard out and with Kevin Butler's extra point the score was now (30-3) Chicago. Later, Steve Grogan would be intercepted by Reggie Philips who would run the ball back into the end zone from 28 yards out for the touch down and with Kevin Butler's extra point the score would now be (37-3) Bears. Cedric Jones would have a catch from Steve Grogan knocked out of his arms by Wilbur Marshal who would get the ball then lateral it to Wilson and the ball would end up on the Patriots 38 yard line. Walter Payton would rush for consecutive gains of 7 and 6 yards to get to the New England 25 yard line. McMahon would then find Dennis Gentry with a 24 yard pass that would land the Bears on the Patriots 1 yard line. William Perry would cap off the drive by rushing into the end zone from 1 yard out for the touch down and with Kevin Butler's extra point the score was now (44-3) Chicago. Later, Steve Grogan would find Stephan Starring with a nice 15 yard pass play completion. Grogan would then find Stanley Morgan for a gain of 13 yards to get to the Chicago 48 yard line. Robert Weathers would then rush for a gain of 5 yards. Later, it would be Steve Grogan rushing for a gain of 3 yards to get to the Chicago 27 yard line. Steve Grogan would then be sacked by Dan Hampton causing a loss of -5 yards on the play as the quarter came to an end.
Quarter Four: Steve Grogan would then find Stanley Morgan for a passing play completion resulting in a gain of 18 yards and the Patriots would be on the Chicago 8 yard line. The Patriots would go for it on 4th & Goal on the Chicago 7 yard line. Steve Grogan would cap off the drive by throwing a 7 yard touch down pass to Irving Fryer and with Tony Franklin's extra point the score would now be (44-10) Bears. Back up quarterback Steve Fuller would come to replace Jim McMahon who would leave the game with an injured hand. Walter Payton would rush for a gain of 7 yards. Later, after getting hit Derek Ramsay would loose the ball and the Bears would recover and have it on the New England 43 yard line. Later, Steve Grogan would find Stanley Morgan for a gain of 10 yards. Grogan then found Tony Collins for a gain of 10 yards. Grogan then connected with Irving Fryer for a gain of 16 yards. Steve Grogan would have the drive end after he threw an interception to Jim Morrisey who would run the ball back 48 yards to get to the Patriots 6 yard line. The Bears would go for it after penalties on 4th down. Walter Payton would run 5 yards but fall short and the Patriots would get the ball back on their own 4 yard line. Steve Grogan would get sacked in the end zone for the safety and the score would go to (46-10) Chicago. Later, Steve Fuller would be sacked by Ben Thomas causing a loss of -13 on the play. The Bears would ultimately run out the clock and to on to win Super Bowl XX by the final score of (46-10).
